My experiences with an Atari 2600 (So far)

During the last few weeks I have been playing Atari 2600 games for the first time, in this rare blog post I will document my experiences with the console so far.

HISTORY

I can’t remember what exactly tipped me off but I can narrow it down to either the AVGN’s review of the Atari 5200 where it was mentioned briefly or Classic Game Room (CGR). While I don’t remember who got it started, it was ultimately CGR who took it from a mere interest in history of the console to actually wanting one.

One of the first videos I remember looking at. (Ignore the part about connecting it to a video player if your in the UK. Went straight into the back of my CRT TVs anologue input)

COLLECTING PIECES

So from establishing my interest it took a while for things to get off the ground, I found a Space Invaders Cartridge at a boot sale in the summer but it wasn’t until April this year I got the console. I starting searching ebay and came across an auction of the “jr” model with combat and successfully bidded and won it for £16.50 (Possibly a bit pricey, but at least I had the console) and it arrived shortly after along with some games I also bought in seperate auctions. (Asteroids, Yars Revenge)

THOUGHTS ON THE ACTUAL CONSOLE AND CONTROLLER

Thoughts on the atari controller in a nutshell (sorry about pic quality)

From recieving the console I have found it to be study and well built, it’s in good shape considering it’s age and shows no sign of slowing down any time soon. I have a issue with that they put the controller ports on the back instead of the front but i’ll let them off, I’m demanding too much for a 20 odd year old machine.

Moving on to the atari controller and I while I agree it is an icon of gaming it is a piece of dog shit for controlling games. I mean it seems I have to move the stick hard to get the thing im controlling to move in a particular direction. It sucks and i’m glad I can use a Mega Drive or Master System controller to get around having to use it. Maybe again I’m just not used to it. It’s different to what we’ve come to expect since the NES arrived in town.

GAMES

Classic, that is all what needs to be said. If the graphics feel too basic, use your imagination

Like Spongebob here

Conclusion
Fantastic classic console, if your collecting old games consoles you cannot go wrong with an atari 2600.

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

What a nice chap -_-

Bioshock is amazing.

Got my hands on this gem in the steam sale and simply it is brilliant.

That is all, i can’t be bothered to write anything else.

Severe lack of updates

I’m not going to lie to you, i’ve shunned this place, left it under the carpet and ignored it.

And i apolgise sincerly, and i’m going to make amendments. First of all i’m aiming to post on here at least once a month and see if that can get this going again. Maybe a review or an update, something on the lines of that. Infact i’ve been thinking of posting a review of VVVVVV on here considering i’ve really enjoyed the game.

So yeah i’m back, in black (Yes i couldn’t avoid a AC/DC reference)

I am offically on my second stint to get tf2

Half life Half life

I cannot get half life out of my head and today it wouldn’t calm down.

You see i was in Science this afternoon and we were learning about Radio-isotopes and their half-lifes. and all what came up in my head was Gordon Freeman, the G-man, and Alex. I even drawn the half life symbol next to the word to try and stop it. I even made a remark to a friend about how supposedly a man named Gordon did experiments with half-life. So there i am a bit hooked on Half-life and Valve games in general ( Huge craving to get TF2 at the moment.

Realsing just how much i moan.

“Metal, it’s just people screaming down a mic and making my ears go. i’ll go deaf from it one day.
Pop, generic rubbish that is spoonfed down my throat when i don’t want it
Big brother, just end it Channel four
X-factor - talent contest? more like pop contest and the xmas number one hogger if we don’t do anything.
BBC moaners - please be quiet, the BBC are doing there job well besides commercial tv sucks nowadays. I wouldn’t watch QI, Top Gear and Doctor who with adverts inbetween.
South park - Immature
ITV’s F1 coverage”
